I used to write fan fiction. It used to be my escape; I’d write about soap opera characters that I loved, post my stories online and read other stories. It was great way for me to meet people, get feedback, and be able to share my love of writing. However, as I stopped watching soaps, I stopped writing. I dabbled in Harry Potter fan fiction for a bit but in that fandom, I’m mostly a reader not a writer.

Fast forward to recently: I’ve really want to get back into writing for quite some time and be able to maybe make something of my writing. However I have no desire to write fan fiction again; rather I want to work on developing my own characters and storyline. Lelia suggested a couple of weeks ago as a job I should start writing romance novels again. I let the idea stir in my head for a bit and decided I was going to revamp one of my old favorite fan fics that I had started and never finish and see where I could take it.

Enter Private Pleasure. Private Pleasure is one of my favorite stories I’ve started to write and never finished; mainly because it was the first time I’ve ever created my own character in my main character’s daughter and I’m quite attached to her character despite being a 5 year old. It was originally a Days fic altered to become a GH fic and now my own characters. If I could make a character that I like, why couldn’t I create other characters that I like? Enter Ethan, Chase, Miri and Alexa.

Basically the plot line: In high school, Miri and Alexa were two of the most popular girls in their high school class. Ethan and Chase…not so much. However this does not deter Chase, our hero, from falling in love with Miri. Miri, is quite attracted to Chase unbeknownst to him, but she cannot and will not give up her social standing in their class to date someone she sees lower on the popularity scale. With Alexa’s convincing, she turns him down and quite harshly at that. What happens 10 years later when Miri ends up applying for a job at Chase’s law firm? Will sparks fly? Will Chase want revenge? If so, what is he up to?
Will Chase get his happy ending with his dream girl?

Miri Cook right now is the only one I can’t figure if I like her name or not. I like the character; I’m not so sure how fond of her name I am. I based her name off her predecessor’s name which was Mimi. In my head she’s still Mimi. I don’t want to use Mimi as that screams to me too much of the fan fic that I don’t want this to be. But I can’t figure a good name….plus I like Miri because of the movie Zach and Miri make a porno – Miri is also a pretty name to me; just not sure if I want to use it. Miri comes from a rich family. She was spoiled rotten as a child. She had everything she ever wanted. However, she also was neglected and raised by nannies because her parents own a huge corporation and were too busy working and partying. When she got pregnant with Lily in college, she was thrown out and disowned by her family as she would not marry the baby’s father; thus an embarrassment to the family name.

Alexa Worthing. I like her. I like her a lot better than I liked her when I wrote her as Belle Black. Alexa I actually got from my niece’s name. It works for the story as Alexa is quite snooty and Alexa always sounded like a good snooty name to me…but it also is a name that allows for warmth and friendliness, which when you get down to it, Alexa is the only one who stood by Miri when she got pregnant and Lily adores her. Will Ethan adore her? We’ll have to wait and see!

Chase Roberts. Yeah my cousin has a son named Chase and when I decided to rewrite, I immediately thought of his name being fitting! He feels like he’s been chasing Miri all his life and can’t let go. He hasn’t let go of the hurt or anger from Miri’s rejection [poor guy still carries her pic in his drawer] and hasn’t dated too seriously as he doesn’t want to get attached. He’s very love them and leave them. Him and his best friend Ethan just started their own law firm and are in search of a secretary when Miri comes back into his life looking for a job. He’s got some plans up his sleeves; let’s just hope they don’t backfire on him!

Ethan Sloane. Combination of one of my best friend’s son’s and one of my other best friend’s fiance’s last name. Creative, I know! Actually I’m amused because I was talking today to my sister and I want to set up a playdate for Alexa (who’s 18 months) with Ethan (also 18 months) and my thought was awww, what if they get married one day?! Yeah I’m a dork! Anywho, Ethan (the character) is Chase’s best friend! He’s the one who’s more cynical and jaded to Chase’s hope and optimism. Had he had his way, Chase would have never talked to Miri that fateful day in high school!

Lily Cook. First ever character I’ve created. I originally had planned for her to have Cystic Fibrosis but I couldn’t do it. Maybe another story. Instead she does have Asthma (which is something I’m going to have to research) and just got over pneumonia as well which is why Miri lost her job and needs a new job. Stupid bosses. However it is a plus for Chase! She’s adorable, says what comes to mind, and loves her mommy.

So my goal is to update my story here…maybe if I have it up here, I’ll be more motivated to finish this story. If I can finish this story, I can maybe figure how to get this published…and then maybe I won’t have to worry about jobs and grad school! Hah, wishful thinking!
